I attended a Girl Talk concert at DePaul’s Fest on Friday (5/30). It was the first time I’ve listened to his gig live and I have to say, Greg Gillis (the mystery man behind Girl Talk), is a one man party. I was blown away by how much better his stuff sounds live in addition to him working the audience like a professional. The concert had a good lively turnout and his tracklist mixed some old tracks with some new, yet to be realeased, mashups.
It’s the nature of his performance that everything is digital but its good to know its all live, “I do all my music live, I’m actually clicking the mouse when the changes happen, but its not as entertaining to click a mouse as to play a drum so I try to interact with the crowd and make it as entertaining as possible.”
He left news and a message for us lucky DePaul students: his new album is dropping in the next few weeks and he ends the show with an ecouragment for music piracy and poliferation.
Update: His new album Feed the Animals is available here : pay him what it’s worth to you.
